Description

About 308 million years ago, at the mouth of a great equatorial river, the sediment that would later become the Mazon Creek fossil beds was laid down under conditions that were perfect for fossil preservation. When amateur paleontologists later found these fossils among the spoil heap of a coal mine, one fossil in particular, that of Tullimonstrum, was a cause for astonishment!
Tullimonstrum, popularly known as the Tully monster is one of the greatest enigmas in the history of paleontology. At various times, this creature, with its clawed-proboscis and strange stalked eyes, has been classified as a vertebrate, a mollusk, an arthropod, and more! This necklace faithfully depicts a Tullimonstrum fossil just as it is typically found, encased in a siderite concretion, or nodule.
Comes with an adjustable-length 2mm black leather necklace cord and a colorful diagram describing the fossil-forming process (taphonomy). A great gift for paleontology fans everywhere!
